How to Use Video Extensometers to Perform Tensile Tests on Thin Wire

How to Use Video Extensometers to Perform Tensile Tests on Thin Wire
When performing tensile tests on small diameter wire, using a video extensometer, such as the VE1, is recommended in order to achieve accurate test results.

However, the small diameter of the wire often results in difficulties finding a consistant area offering a visible contrast for the video extensometer software and test results can therefore quickly end up inaccurate.

By applying a special adhesive to the wire prior to the test, the contrast is easily observed by the video extensometer software and the test can be carried out with correct test results.
